HP Color LaserJet CM1015 MFP: USB doesnt work
HP Color LaserJet CM1015 MFP. The self test on it runs fine, supplies are not low, etc. and it can make B&W and colour copies perfectly.|
However, the USB port flat out doesn't work. It's not a matter of installing drivers. When you plug it in, the computer doesn't see anything there. I've tried using different USB cables and have also plugged in other printers, which work fine.
I took the printer apart and checked out the circuit board (called "format board"?) where the USB port is. The connections look solid and I can't see anything wrong.
Anybody seen this problem? Replacement boards are too expensive ($199), although if I could find another CM1015 or CM1017 with a different defect, I might be able to swap the boards.

Before I replace any suspect newer generation formatter, I'll always try baking it first. I have a better than 80% success ratio. Since you basically have nothing to lose, give it a go. Prop up the corners of the board on crumpled aluminum foil balls on a baking sheet. If there are any removable plastic parts on the board that look like they can melt, remove them first. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F and bake the board for 8 minutes and then let it cool. This reflows all the solder connections on the board. If that doesn't work, then get another board.
