hp 1280 printer the blinking ink light is on

I've been getting frequent notices that my printer ink cartridges are incorrectly installed (which they are not) and, this has been constanlty re-occurring even after I re-install them.
At this point, the blinking ink light is on and stays on and consequently the printer won't print.
I think the printer ROM memory needs re-setting (like you can reset an Epson or Cannon) but,I don't know how to.
At the moment both my cartridges are new and registering as full. Yet, the blinking ink light still won't go out and the printer can't reset itself. Can you help please? Thank you.

Recently I posted a plea for help with my hp 1280 printer. The ink light was permanently blinking and this caused the printer to go offline and to stop printing altogether. Nothing I did worked and I was getting ready to throw the ***** thing in the dustbin when I thought I'd give it just one very last chance......
So, following the great advice I found on the forums, I removed the cartridges, cleaned them with alcohol and then checked out the cartridge carrier pins (using a torch). I then cleaned them very carefully with a soft paintbrush (the kind artists' use) dipped in alcohol(shaking off any surplus).
The carrier pins did actually look perfectly ok but, something told me to check if any of them might be out of line or loose. I did this with a very small screwdriver tip....just touching them enough to check for any movement, and...low and behold...one of the pins DID move. It then occurred to me that when changing the cartridges it is possible, if it's done a bit roughly... to accidentally displace one or more of the carrier pins. And this, not surprisingly, in consideration we need to change cartridges very often during the lifetime of the printer. The happy outcome of this discovery for me is that my (expensive!!) hp 1280 is now back online and working....!! Try it yourself...its worth having a go. But be extra careful and gentle with the carrier pins. Hope this helps you sufferers tearing their hair out because of fricking blinking printer lights!
