I print to it using an hp 600n jetdirect print server installed in the printer. The problem is not that the print engine is slow, it is that sending printing to the printer's spooler is slow.
the 600n is plugged into a 100Mbit network and printing jobs are sent in RAW. however, the data transfer rate from the windows spooler to the jetdirect card (and subsequently the printer) is very slow. Like: data leaves the windows spooler at only a few hundred kilobytes per second. The data should transfer ino the printer spooler much faster than this, right?
When I was printing to hp 8550 printers while in school, the printing office never had problem with slow spooling, so I am thinking I have had something setup wrong since I got it. Any idea what I am doing wrong?

Lots of people seem to make this very complaint, yet I have yet to see a verified solution.
First of all, could someone inform me of approximately what the data transfer rate from a windows print spoiler to the jetdirect card should be? Like: should it be in the ballpark of 100KB/sec, 250KB/sec, 2MB/sec, etc. (I am talking about the 10/100 card at 100M full duplex. Come on... no one uses token ring or 10-T anymore. I have the 600n in this printer)
I have read suggestions such as:
(1) hp in a document suggests users enable the i/o buffer in the i/o menu. However the 8550 does not list this in the i/o menu.
(2) installing the port driver "hp standard TCP/IP." aparently, it is supposed to do something diffrent that the built-in windows "standard TCP/IP" port driver. This didn't appear to do anything for me.
